8,9,10 million and then he's got to go. Long term club stability etc. He might break a leg next game. It's a bit cliche but one man doesn't make a team but that sort of money would be equivalent to 2-3 seasons budget/income. Let's not forget he could leave for nowt in 9 months. Love Connor to bits but let's be realistic.
The best bit of business we could do today would be to offer Conor an improved 2 yr contract, and allow him to put in a reasonable buy out clause. Now that would be good
£10m would be daft money. I'd drive him there myself for that. Bids won't come anywhere near that. Out of contract this year and won't sign another. I'd be amazed if anyone offered even half that
Some of the numbers being spoken about on this thread are bonkers. If the club gets offered anything like 3m, with him being in his last year he'll be off. No club will offer 10m for a player in his last year of a contract. I think we would struggle to get anywhere near that if he was on a 5 year deal and he'd played 50 games at Championship level. I know its feel good times down at Oakwell and I don't want this journey to falter let alone end so I can't see the club selling him because nobody is going to offer gazillions to buy him.
I don't think he'll go - he knows if he waits he will prob get a better contract as any club wont have a transfer fee to pay so his agent can argue the case for them to put more into his wages. one caviat to this is if our club decide we want to sell him if an offer comes in that's too good to turn down, but then who is going to offer silly money when they know he is out of contract this season, and could Conor refuse to go?
I really don't think 3m would be a good deal. He is pretty much the source of the impetus for the team with his assists and set pieces and if we keep him I'd say it would be a defining factor in us staying up. The silly money mentioned in the thread reflects the money being thrown around and the fact that Barnsley have no financial need to sell at present
If a decent offer comes in and Connor wants the move PC will not have any say in it. And if we do try and stop him we won't get same performances out of him. The deals with these up and coming players is that if a club comes in and it's acceptable to the club and they want to go then they can. Take that out of the equation and the likes of the lad at Chessy etc will give us a wide birth. Connor can and will be replaced when that time comes .imo
I agree mate, I think the main part of my post was meant to say that no club will offer anywhere near 10m, it will be 3m max and then its up top the club to decide whether they prefer the money or not. On one hand I think the club would tell any club offering 3m to eff off, but on the other we have been here before, just now the money has gone up. The problem with all this is, it sounds ace to get millions for your players, but it costs equally as much to replace them properly. Its like the housing boom in the 90s. Oooh I've got 200k for a house I bought for 50k only a few years ago, 150k profit. What I can't keep that money and leave work and retire? ******** all the house prices have gone up so I'm back to square one again. The only thing this is going to do is open up the gap between the championship and the leagues below. There was already a significant one but this year in particular its bonkers.
Hourihane isn't going anywhere. We would need ridiculous money to consider letting him go which we won't receive as he can be signed on a free transfer this time next year. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
I've got a funny feeling that we're going to lose one of the big boys i.e Robbo , Marley , Sam , Conor or Josh Scowen . There's always a surprise on deadline day . If someone came in for Moncur would we let him go ? or more importantly, he might want to go ,considering his lack of game time .
If a club wants a player and they have competition why would they not offer say 5 mill just because he only has one year left at his club. Players worth 5 mil whether he has 1 year or five years if your not guaranteed to get him out of contract. Just an opinion like
Take your supporters hat off & put your chairmanship hat on. £4.5m -£6m would be great business tbh. For a player who could sign a pre contract in Jan & leave for nothing or sell the player in Jan for a fraction of 4.5-6 just to get a return on the player
Case in point with Elliot Lee apparently being made available for loan! Still think Moncur will be in and around the first team when injuries and suspensions inevitably happen.
