I heard that we've made an offer to Luton for Cameron McGeehan too.

    Solanke... Does his attitude fit?
Burke...no better than what we've got. And no McCardle to help him through games.

Still obsessing about a 'dm type'

And no clue about how the spine of the team works.

And wanting to sign other clubs 18 year olds rather than play our own.

    Some things never change.

Gonna be tears because Burke is going to Wigan. A side languishing at the bottom of the league. Clearly not good enough for our high flying side

Spine = Gk, CH, CM, CF Long! Brownhill! Fletcher! Whats so strange about a spine of loanees? Or is it just who suggested it?

Ah, we had this out last night. Look at his reply. It was just a very cunning ploy to suggest replacing the players who are too popular for his liking...

Read the thread. And that was never the spine last season. Those 3 started very few games together...

Would you be unhappy with those three this season?

We won't get them, but that's not the point. The spine is the consistent, reliable performers, who have generally played together for some time. Excuse me quoting myself, but this is my response to HT's suggestion we need a spine of loanees..

Spines of teams tend not to be loan players. hence the term. Loans are more the truss on the outside.

    Our 'spine' is currently..
    Davies
    Roberts
    Scowen
    Hourihane
    Hammill
    Winnal
    Watkins

He goes on to accuse me of going off topic, so I threw it back at him and he shut up.

Can I say that it's a shame this fourm really can't stick to a topic. I've said it earlier but having read through others this weekend it's bad that i'd imagine adults can't stick to a topic. I've noticed this type of post on other forums goes down quite well.

To littlemoscowred, good to see someone notice that from last year too.

Two points Mr C. Your idea of the spine of a team and mine are very different! I have always believed that the spine of the team was as I stated in my previous post GK-CH-CM-CF and nothing to do with the consistency of performance. Secondly I am fully aware that the three players I quoted did not play together often, I was purely using them as an example. The majority of posters would have been happy with that "spine" last season and would have been overjoyed if they had been signed for this season.

As permanent signings yes but if they were signed for a couple of months to form the zone of the side and build around them then it would be pointless because two or three months later we would be rebuilding again.

I always look at it that somebody in the middle of the park needs to connect and gel with the defence who are just behind him, the strikers just ahead, the left winger to his left and the right winger to his right. Basically everybody else in the team connects to him.
A right winger for example doesn't have to gel with everybody else as much. The biggest partnership for them is the full back behind him and after that it's the centre mid to his left.

For that reason the spine down the centre needs to be there long term and I don't think it's any coincidence that hourihane is performing 10 times better now that he has settled and gelled with everyone around him than he was when he first came.

Did you watch Manchester United vs Southampton.

How long did it take Bailly Pogba Rooney and Zlatan to gell together.

Pogba's trained for 2 week max before that game and he was interlinking with team mates fine.

At the moment Hourihane and winnall are as likely to be at the club in 10 months time as any loan we've brought in. They have refused to sign which says what they are thinking.

We do not need to replace the spine of the team, if we sign a few players they'll just be for backup and/or squad players.

Personally I think we only need a backup keeper, left back and a defensive midfielder..

The current first team are doing well so no need to change

Isn't talking about the players you've got part of a topic which discusses what you need?

Morsy isn't anywhere near as good as what you have at present.
