Rotherham stifled us somewhat in the first half, but we could've still had a couple of goals through Winnall & Hammill. However, we were superb in the second half. After Roberts opened the scoring (an immense performance from him, by the way) there was only going to be one winner. With Hourihane controlling midfield, we dominated. A deflected Hammill goal was then followed by two superb efforts from Bradshaw and Kent.
Young MacDonald gave a solid display and looks like a clone of Roberts. That was the best I've seen from Yiadom in a Reds shirt, too.
A big derby day victory (there's been very few of those over the years to enjoy) and another clean sheet means I'm a happy bunny tonight.

a bottle of red for the Herring table perchance ??

would you say that MacDonald can keep his place or would you recommend a new center back in for next week ?

Water all the way for me.:)
MacDonald was solid today, but he's still a bit raw as you'd expect. However, I recall thinking the same about Roberts twelve months ago. I'd guess we'll be bringing someone in this week and the coaching staff will gradually get the lad up to speed. No complaints from me and, in my opinion, it'd be churlish for anyone to be critical. But Roberts alongside him was imperious.

Great second half performance. We kept our intensity and Rotherham couldn't match it.

thats a good question Dragon, and to be honest im sure we will be tested by a lot more better teams this season than rotherham.
so i reckon we will need a proper replacement rather than appointing an inexperienced youngster.

    agreed ... however

although its just one showing, it looks as if Angus has the makings. Some good coaching and putting him on from the bench could give us a tip top defender, maybe a loan centre back would be the better option this season on this occasion and groom Angus to take the shirt next term...... in the prem maybe :p.

Then how can our inexperienced youngster get that experience if he does not get a game? I know its a catch 22 situation. Today will have boosted McDonald's confidence. Give him his chance.

i understand that ian, but like i said i think a lot of that was down to the poor opposition today. a lot is being said about kevin long coming in as mawson's replacement, what do fans think of that idea after todays result and performance.

Today will more likely have made Big Mac aware of what's needed to step up to the plate.

Special mention to Yiadom as well - class going forward. Still think we need another CB and are in a strong position to recruit but well done Mcdonald

    agree to a some extent

but he is still raw... some good coaching... some reserve games... plenty of from the bench appearances , this could give us a very very good player.... but sometimes if thrown in at the deep end some do sink and not swim... I think this guy has the potential to be good if handled correctly.

Whilst I liked Long when he was here last season, I don't believe that he and Roberts would be a great pairing. I think we need someone whose natural position is on the left hand side of the pairing, as Roberts will (and should) be first choice on the right.

Wouldn't argue with Long + 1 though - we need to turn this excellent team into a squad sharpish!
