If we had drawn with Hudders a top of league club and after 2 great victories at home then it would have thrown a different light on things The club MAYBE have started to think that we could actually have done something this season But no At reported £5 million it's another give away by Patrick Cryne et al - when compared to other less skilful players around To replace Mawson we now need a centre back worth more than £5 million
It's really not. Let's not kid ourselves, he's wanted out all summer. When you hear of several clubs putting offers in for a player it's generally the result of an agent getting the word out.
Obviously you believe it's a good deal done then at the best time of season to sell ??? !!! And yer asking me if lm smoking something??? !!!! Jeez
We need to sign a centre half with the potential to be better than Mawson. That's the plan. Maybe in Angus we already have.
£10 million received for Stones. £5 million for Mawson and Roberts must be worth a few million. I would say that's good business! I'll trust the club to find a suitable replacement for Mawson and who knows what the young kid from Torquay is going to turn out like?
Don't talk rubbish Nudge. Every player has a value and will be sold if someone matches or exceeds it. There's probably only 3 or 4 clubs in the country that don't have to do that.
We have a transfer policy to buy and sell. We don't have the money to extend our best players contracts past their initial contract so we must sell. Theres never a good good time to sell your best players but at the moment it's something we have to do. Better selling today than on the 31st. We were never gonna win the league even with Mawson. I still think we can stay in this league. If we sell a player every year for 5m and remain in the championship I will be happy
I read a lot of forums, but this place has some of the biggest cranks that walk the earth. Nudger needs to be certified.
EVERY player has his price - even Messi But £5 million in the current climate is peanuts AGAIN!!! As a Barnsley fan - the policy of giving players away just wares you down
No I'd have wanted more and think it's a poor time to sell. However, the thread title is the 92nd minute goal cost us Mawson. It's clear to everyone on this forum that that's not the case. So yeah, PM what you've been toking.
How much did we pay for Mawson? Surely you can see that that's a nice quick return? Stones,Holgate,Mawson,Roberts, Long all recently tells me the club know what's involved in finding great defenders and I'm sure they will carry on
Sorry - I try to be sensible when writing - I just can't - I've tried - I'm worse than this in real life A sort of Billy no mates
At the end of the day if the club think they have got the best price for mawson then stop moaning like people are saying we are a selling club
Policy seems to be working well - picking up players that other clubs don't really fancy and turning a good profit on them. Whether we can continue to do that in the Championship remains to be seen, much harder to "nick one" out of the conference/L2 and see them adjust to second tier football straight away, we'll be in a market for players that are good anyway and somewhat well known now but even if you ignore the Stones money, we should still have the edge on the teams who you would expect us to be around in the Championship.
