So what? they were at the time. In answer to your previous reply, I never said that I agreed with it just that they were the rules at the time, applied by the French who are obviously still hurting from the recent atrocities and casting round for solutions. They have obviously seen the error of their ways now. Not going to even touch on the ridiculous Nazi Germany comparison
No they haven't seen the error of their ways. One set of people have banned a rule that another set of people (still desiring to have the law) brought in
Still think people are missing the point of how much France is still hurting, I hope the people weighing in against would think the same and rationally if they had seen so many of their countrymen murdered. Again I didn't agree with the ban or the 4 policemen, BUT they were responding to someone flouting a recent well publicised law and IMHO had every reason to be suspicious.
The law is nothing to do with suspicion or security it is simply wishing to eradicate Islam from france. One of the town's to ban it did so because of hygiene. The pm said it was because France wanted to win a 'battle of cultures' against Muslims. In Cannes the mayor simply said it was because a woman wearing a burkini was 'showing a religious affiliation', the by law states that ithe Burkina "doesn't respect good cultures". Another town says that the law is to ensure everyone respects 'secular principles' despite 'freedom of religion' being one of the key articles of the French version of the American constitution (article 10 if you're interested). So basically the reasons are all ******** and basically just bigots. Interestingly which western countries have banned the burqa and targeted Muslims for oppression? France and Belgium. What happened after they targeted Muslims for oppression? They both got targeted repeatedly for terrorist attacks. Coincidence?
Anyone remember when the UK was under attack from catholic terrorists in the 70's and 80's so we forced nuns to remove their veils and that fixed it?? No me neither because we didn't do it did we, that would have been ******* insane.
Really?, coming from somebody who routinely picks arguments seemingly for the sake of it forgive me if I'm really not bothered
Again, I didn't agree with it, or the reaction by the police, I only pointed out it was law and therefore until they saw sense she shouldn't have done it, they are already way more volatile a nation than us to start with,(burning sheep to make a point etc) . But Nuns really ? that's done me I'm just sticking to the footbal in future if I bother posting at all because trying to make a reasoned view on here on anything else is ridiculous.
Again, it was the incident in question that I said the police had a right to be suspicious of not the law, given the reasons that you gave (at length) it could quite easily have been a group drawing people in to create another incident, it wasn't but it could have been
Nuns veil their hair if anything, not their face. Your rampant terrorist bride is another thing altogether....
That could be true, swimming shorts are banned in public pools in France for that reason, you have to wear speedos.
I find it remarkable that anyone is less outraged by the fact a religion imposes these forced restrictions on millions of women in the first place. Maybe your energies would be best directed at that injustice? Just a thought.
The problem with that is that it's difficult to ascertain where the demands of the religion stop and the choice of the women starts. I stand against dress codes imposed by religion but I also stand for people wearing whatever the hell they want to. In general, I think it's probably better to let people wear their choice of garment and then deal with the cause of that (if I disagree with it) separately. You can't and shouldn't fight a culture by targeting individuals. I do see your point though.
I don't believe that choice is an option here. Centuries of conditioning may have created that 'choice', but lets be honest. It's never been a choice, has it.
That's why I'm probably in favour of banning the burka. Making someone strip by intimidation when they wouldn't do the same to a White French woman is too far though. Imagine if they had approached your daughter etc.
The whole thing is a joke. An entire culture driven by supression and control of women. Misogyny at its worst, countered by a culture of fear. But my point was in reference to the outrage. Whereby people are upset at the stories in the media (the same media that escalates and cranks up the fear in society) but seemingly have little issue with the fact that women have been programmed and controlled by the religious beliefs of men in the first place. Imagine if my daughter grew up in a culture like that.
Never been able to work out why Muslims get a free pass from the left on everything, being more outraged by these police in France than the millions of women forced to cover up in Muslim countries is just one of many examples including homophobia and animal rights.
