I can feel a chant coming on. Fantastic toon with a Barnsley theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thoRROtX9Fc
Yes, this is her latest "hit". Well, it could be. Trouble is that most Barnsley fans will say Kate who?
You misunderstood my post. I know very well who Kate Rusby is - I've seen her on stage many times and am a lifelong "folkie". I remember the great days of the 70s when there were town centre folk clubs in the Centenary Rooms (Civic Hall), The King George and The White Hart. I was only suggesting that MOST Barnsley fans will not know who she is.
I was only demonstrating that at least some of us know who she is, but I take your point, most people probably don't. Folk music is just one of several genres that I like, but mostly I'm into 70s/80s Classic and Prog Rock. There was a discussion on here a few weeks back about the Focus gig at Sheffield City Hall in 1972/3 which remains to this day, one of the best gigs I've seen. Probably my favourite band was early-mid Pink Floyd, Meddle (1971) for me is the best album ever, with Echoes (the whole of side 2) being the ultimate in Prog-Rock perfection.
Sorry to hijack the thread but is it only me who can see the resemblence between bill and whitey...it's whitey in a mask isn't it....it's the forehead and the grin
I have an extremely tenuous link to Kate. She's best friends with Catherine Roberts, who owns the house next to us. It doesn't stop her bragging about knowing Big Lil, though!
Talented family The Roberts clan. If you've not checked out Gilmore Roberts yet I'd highly recommend them if folk is your thing. Funny that Kathryn and Jamie were nominated in the same category at the BBC folk awards this year too.
I do, mate. Yes. I've known the Roberts family for donkey's years. The trouble is, as I've known the likes of Kathryn, Jonathan & Jamie since they were kids, when I see them now they're adults it just makes me feel old! Jamie & Katriona Gilmore lived in the property until they moved earlier this month. http://www.gilmoreroberts.co.uk/
'Fantastic tune and video. Not a Ruzzer original, I used to think 'Our Town' would have been a great BFC tune. 'Ar Tarn' of course. I wanted to do a version with Jim O'Brien, but he went and got himself transferred. Hankies at the ready...
I wished she'd sing at Oakwell sometime. Maybe when we've got ourselves promoted at the end of this season?
All the family are and have always been polite, lovely people. Crystal & I simply know them as the Roberts, who just happen to be talented musicians.
Thought I'd give some BFC orientate lyrics a go. Barnsley FC couldn’t score once again. Messing about it was always the same. When out of nowhere Sam Winnall got the ball Gave it some shoe and scored out of the blue But here’s Sam Sam – His foots a cannon And it’s Sam Sam who will save Heckies Plan Big brave Sam From Barnsley he came Big brave Sam From the Mines Big brave Sam We will remember his name The hero who drinks Yorkshire Tea all the time. - Get Kettle on. Also - We are the BFC preservation society God save Patrick Cryne, Heckingbottom and Pukka Pies - to the Village Green Preservation Society would be a good one Can't think of the Ponte doing folk though.
