You kidding? £24m? The bloke is average. Mawson will be twice the player he is. £24m. Think football needs to reboot, that is madness!!!

Only 28 as well? Thought he was well into his 30's.

No bar has been set, that's a "f**k off we're not selling him" price.

Actually makes me furious. the absolute greed and absurd numbers being banded around. When the people supporting the clubs are fighting austerity and impending recession.

**** you sky. You've killed the working mans game.

Thank god for the Crynes and Barnsley. A real club. Owned by real people. By the fans, for the fans.

How have sky killed it? Genuine question.

    Timeline of events:
Sky hand football clubs additional money
Football club directors choose to use the money solely on players, ignoring facilities in stadiums and the needs of their customers.
Foitball club directors spend even more money on players above and beyond the money that comes to them from sky
Football club directors raise ticket prices to cover their financial mismanagement

To transfer that to a different industry
National lottery gives a run down museum £2m.
Museum leaves toilets out of order and flaky paint on the wall and spends entire £2m on a new artefact.
Museum buys yet another new artefact for a further £1m putting the museum in significant debt
Museum raises ticket prices significantly to cover the debt.

In the museum example who gets the blame? The lottery for giving money to the museum? Or the people running the museum for financial mismanagement?

As long as some rich foreigner has the money to throw away, transfer fees will keep on rising. Clubs like us will have to make our money by the use of Sell-On clauses while the Evertons and West Hams of this world shaft the mega-rich Man Ures & Citehs.

I finished with Sky about fifteen years ago because of the irreversible damage I could see they were doing to football. The Sky poison is now coursing through the championships veins and there are no signs of the cancer being cut from the game.

The money washing around in the higher levels of the game is obscene. All we can hope for is that the biggest clubs sod off and form a European league, leaving the rest of football to start over and get our game back.

One of the reasons I said we should take no less than 6 million for Alf. They are awash with money and throwing it around like confetti.
How much for Conor if he had 3 years left.

Good grief, if Johnny Evans is worth £24million how much will we get for Barrie Thomas? Much better pedigree in the game and scoring more goals for us.

John was a great signing from Exeter for a couple of thousand so I reckon we should cash in, but it will be a real shame to break up the Thomas/Evans partnership which is going to fire us out of the Fourth Division.

    Oh.....hang on. It's 2016 isn't it, not 1967 :D

Do the national lottery dictate when people can visit the museums that you refer too? Do they put such a premium on the very top 20 museums that failure to be in that elite group of museums can often lead to reduced revenues and customers of over 1000%.

agree plenty plenty of clubs have also been mis managed, but the premier league sold its sole to sky for a pot of gold and sky now exploit that.

Correct me if I'm wrong but think people might be jumping the gun a bit here. All that's happened is wba have said he can't go for less than that. And I think that's due to the fact that they want to scare off any potential suitors due to it being so close to the window so they may be unable to find a suitable replacement. There's no mention of anyone actually offering 24m is there?

Exactly, so they've set the bar at £24m

If I was a rich foreigner, or rich non-foreigner for that matter. I wouldn't be jizzing £24m of my fortune on some shabba centre half.

I'd be on a yacht in the Med, surrounded by hot chicks, with more champagne and Albarino than I could ever wish to drink, whilst wearing nothing but a pair of white speedos, a pink blazer with shoulder pads, a captains hat, and a pair of Ray Bans.

I'm not really sure where this idea that Jonny Evans isn't a good player has come from.

He was a regular starter for several seasons at Man Utd due to Rio & Vidic's injuries & they continued to win trophies.

He was then moved on to accommodate Jones & Smalling who've not performed as well as Evans did.

He's also been very solid for West Brom & Northern Ireland over the years.

Obviously not worth £24m but some comments on here are strange, he's clearly not average & I can't believe anyone seriously thinks Mawson will be a better player

It's not a question of whether he is better or not. They've simply drawn a line and said put up or shut up. Prices are vastly inflated at the moment so we should be looking at considerably more than some of the figures banded around.

How much did the blunts see naughton for?
