Then he should also be adamant that Alfie Mawson sees out the contract that he signed.

He doesn't leave then, unless he does a Larry May and goes on strike

I think the intention is not to sell.

Patrick Cryne has also intimated that in assessing the value of player to the Club they will look at factors such as the likelihood the loss of a key player will prevent us reaching the goals we have set ourselves. If promotion was worth £6 million then to potentially lose that revenue may dictate us holding on to a player even though his contract is expiring.

£5m or no deal. Losing Mawson would be a huge blow to our team - we need to keep everyone together. Losing any of our key players might ruin all that hard work and our great start.

Gioer. The money floating around the premier league this season is mental. £25m for Wijnaldum and Bolasie, £35m for Mane, £15m for Jordon Ibe etc.

Following the most recent TV deal players are going for twice what they would have done last season. £3m is nowt now.

Not sure our owner really knows the value of a player, maybe we should ask the Peterborough Chairman what he would ask for Mawson.

I'd be disgusted if he left for less than £5m tbh.

I hate the fact that everyone is putting a price on his head . He's ours and an integral part of our team.We should be trying our best to keep him ,It's like an Ebay auction at the moment and shows a lack of ambition.

How can anyone be adamant about things that are out of their hands? It's no wonder PC is so dismayed about social media whoring...

That - and also that his value will increase as he plays more championship games. I would be surprised if we sell now.

Spot om Dreamboy apart from your valuation it should be 10m plus add ons for England call up etc, Plus sell on of 20-25% , This is the minimum because like you say a ball playing centre half who also scores goals.

We will probably lie Down and get are pants pulled down again , Please let's for once get the going rate for one of our players up front because as Mr Cryne said we got a little lucky with John Stones because I rememberr saying at the time we sold John Stonesfar too cheap he was worth minimum 5m then plus all the add ons plus sell on fee and we should have put in that deal we want him back on loan for the rest of that season even with the limited appearances he had at that time !

I'm genuinely not sure what people are seeing when they're suggesting £7m.

I feel he's getting Nyatanga syndrome from our first season in league one where because he's chipping in with goals we're ignoring his errors at the back.

He didn't cover himself in glory at Ipswich, dropped a massive clanger at Northampton where Roberts' pace bailed him out & he should've done a lot better with Huddersfield's second on Saturday.

I don't really understand the Stones comparison. Stones was about 4/5 years younger so there was more potential with him. He was also proving himself in the championship where as Mawson's only proven in league one. Stones was much quicker, made less mistakes, taller & a much better footballer.

That been said even though I think £3.5m's a fair value I still don't want him to go simply because I don't want the team to be broken up as we've got the kind of team spirit that's very hard to get in football.

Two common mistakes of Alfie last season was his inability to see a goal threatening move opening up and not taking responsibility for a man.

No matter who's man it is sometimes as a centre back you have to be prepared to take responsibility for the mistakes of others and just f*cking get there. Make that last ditch block or tackle. We saw it time and time again from particularly Foster and Hassell. Just always in place to make that last ditch block.

He got better at the side of Kevin Long but we saw on Saturday that he still has that very mistake in his game. Alfie is definitely a brilliant footballer but reading the game he's still very much learning. No where near the level of Stephen Foster, Darren Moore, Bobby Hassell.

Watch from 1 min 30 for an almost carbon copy mistake from Alf.

If Sunderland are talking at £3 million plus, I think we should be talking to them seriously. I like Mawson. His attitude is spot on; he is comfortable on the ball; reads the game well; has more attributes to his game than just a central defender; got rave reviews at Wycombe; has developed further as part f a highly successful Reds team; has the potential to develop further. Our policy is to develop, add value and move on. If Sunderland are starting to talk at £3 million, I would be pushing them all the way for the extras. At that price, I think it is a win-win for Alfie and for us. He gets Premiership football and wages. We get a return on investment, which we can re-invest. I would be sad to see him go, but am sure that the board will have been scouting alternatives, whether on loan, or permanent now or later. Can't really stand in his way. I have a lot more confidence that this board will hold out for best price and have the negotiating skills to get best price. Let's see what happens. I think it will happen.

£5 million is the absolute max we will get. I'd be surprised if he goes at all this window to be honest.

To the people quoting £10 million, have a word.
