In the same way they seem to get millions for any striker they sell we now seem to be the same for defenders!

Anyone wanting one of our defenders can add a few million on to the price. And likewise any up and coming defenders will look at us and see we have produced or improved Stones, Holgate, Mawson, Roberts, Bree and so we are a great destination for their career.

Well done Barnsley!! Keep it up.

To be fair it's about time. We have had so many classy centre backs over the years, possibly more than any other position. And yet in recent years that wasn't always the case. When I first started supporting us they seemed to be queuing up.

    Paul Futcher
    Mark Smith
    Mal Shotton
    Carl Tiler
    Gerry Taggart
    Paul McGugan
    Steve Davis
    Arjan De Zeeuw
    Chris Morgan
    Adie Moses

I'm sure there must be some others that I've missed off (nobody mention Keith Brown!), but that's quite some list of talent.

Bloody hell. When you list them out the last 25 years has seen some tight talent!

And I'm sure some of the greybeards could list plenty more from years gone by.

Perhaps it's something about the town that brings out the best in gritty, no nonsense, resolute and stubborn defenders. And not so many namby pamby fancy Dan shoe ponies.

Where is JLWBigLil when you need him?
I can go back as far as Pat Howard, Mick McCarthy Ian Evans (and of course Norman Hunter!) as decent centre halfs for us in addition to the ones you mention

    Didn't he sub himself though?

I think he was player manager, but I could be wrong.

Just before my time mate. My first season was 87-88. Saw him play for Millwall against us when we lost a very odd game 2-1. He was very calm and composed. Seemed to always have an age on the ball.

Exactly, Big Winnie is a club legend both as a player, and later coach and the driving force in Danny Wilson's Premiership promotion team.
