Will be gobsmacked if a big club does not test our resolve before the window shuts. His delivery from dead ball situations is unbelievable and he is so cultured in open play.

Would need to be a lot of money. How do we even begin replacing him at this point?

thats a very good point, and what should we accept if some club does come in with a good amount ?
im sick of us selling a top player for so called good money, and then never really replacing him so weve missed out eventually on the deal havent we.

I say we make an exception for Hourihane and break the wage structure a bit and give him a new three year deal if he'll sign it, by far the best midfielder i've seen at Oakwell

Nope. If you start breaking wage structures you're on a slippery slope.....ALL footballers are replaceable. It's down to the management to buy/loan/develop the right player at the right time. Hourihane is a case in point. So is Mawson, Roberts. They are being developed and have all improved. In the last year or two BFC have done very well within the wage structure they have set. Well done the management.

I'm not meaning by alot like 10 grand a week or anything just a little bit extra if nothing else but to get some money for him when he leaves

remember when we sold ashley ward and got over £4 mill (was it really that much ?).
some people said its no problem, lets just go and replace him etc. well we had about a third of that money and we peed it away on mike sheron.

my point here is that even if we do get a great amount for Conor before the end of this month, who are we going to replace him with in the current transfer market.

When did we get Shipperly? He did a decent job of replacing Ward

It's not about breaking the wage structure, it's about what we can offer him as a team. I've no doubt Hourihane wants to play at the highest possible level. If a Derby, Leeds, Ipswich, Norwich, Forest, Newcastle, Brighton etc came in & offered him more money, they aren't just offering him more money they're offering him a realistic chance of playing in the premiership because of the budget of the club & the players they can recruit.

We might be able to break our wage structure for one or two but we can't do it for a full first team.

Unfortunately he'll probably leave & I can't really blame him.

Just enjoy him while he's here

Think we have to accept he'll be gone at the end of the season. No sense in selling him this window though and I think cryne knows that.

I may be utterly deluded and alone in thinking this, but, if we keep Hourihane and all our top players, I think we have a realistic chance of a play-off spot and the possibility of Premier League football again here at Oakwell. We have some great talent and a fantastic team spirit.

In the short term you're right but I don't think you can keep it up. Brentford had a superb first season at this level & I think they made the play offs but still ended up losing players. To keep Hourihane I honestly think we'd need to get promoted

All have more money & more potential in the long term than us. Just been realistic

Cryne said Conor wont sign a new contract and will let it run to its conclusion and then make a decision. Lets hope we are challenging for playoffs and can keep him and get him on a new one at renewal. Doubt he woudl leave for another champ club so would take a prem club to do it. Maybe someone like southampton or bournemouth if he wanted to get back down to the south coast.
