Unfortunately, somebody I happen to know has come up with the amazing argument that Barnsley and L**ds cannot be rivals as we're from South Yorkshire and they're from West, so we're in different counties. I sh*t you not.
The easiest was to win that one would be to say Forest and Derby are massive rivals but are from Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire; or Ipswich and Norwich are rivals but are from Suffolk and Norfolk. Simples
Don't bother. They still think Man Utd and Chelsea are their rivals. You're fighting a losing battle.
This argument was put forward by an Arsenal "fan" from North Wales who also has a soft sport for almost every German team in existence.
I disagree, what about Sheff Utd? Or even Donny to a certain extent when they went through their purple patch and were at a similar level to us? I'd class them as rivals at that point, and over the past 10/15 years especially, I would class L**ds as one of our biggest.
Yeah, but apparently West and South Yorkshire aren't in the same county and we've never been at the same level as L**ds so can't be rivals...
Did he tell you that Leeds have played in Europe within the first minute of the conversation? If not, he's not a proper Leeds fan.
Read above, he's an Arsenal "fan" from North Wales I think he was just a bit giddy because he'd just paid 64 quid to watch Arsenal play for the first time in 5 years.
So by that argument Liverpool and Man Utd can't be rivals, and we've never been at the same level as Leeds? Did he fall into a coma about 15 years ago?
Up to the boundaries changing in 70s we were both in West Riding . Arsenal north London , Chelsea West London not rivals? And in different counties. Also number of games played against each other last twenty five years or so suggests we are very much same level as each other .
I'm guessing he doesn't think that Real Madrid and Barcelona is a rivalry then! Barnsley and Leeds are both Yorkshire clubs, but rivalry doesn't just have to be geographical - take Leeds with Man Utd, Man Utd with Liverpool etc.
Techinically Manchester is in Greater Manchester and Liverpool is on Merseyside, also there further away from each other than us and Leeds are
