Championship class your having a laugh arnt you....

This guy is premiership class. Hate to say it but I doubt he will still be here come 1st September.. Just wished he had 2-3 years left on his contract cos I think we could get millions for him, more than the Stones money brought in... Just enjoy the next couple of games we have him cos I think the Rotherham game could be his swong song

I fear you may be right and he's going to be extremely difficult to replace.

We can't replace him. Not only is he a fantastic player but no one can take free kicks and corners like he does.

Whilst I completely agree, I'm beginning to suspect that's exactly why they bought Moncur - to replace Conor when he eventually does leave.

Hope he's up to the job, they're massive shoes to fill. Been great watching Conor develop. As impressive as his contribution to our goal threat is the defensive work he does now.

He's been our best midfielder since Higgy since very early in his time with us. Now he is heading towards Redders level with the only thing stopping him that he won't be with us by then.

remember we signed Conor from lg two Plymouth, so it shows that some gems (eventual gems like him) can be signed from the so called lower leagues.
weve got to get used to him leaving and have got to look around NOW at some possible decent replacements.
at least we should be able to shop in the championship though rather than the usual bargain bucket.

I got absolutely hammered on here roughly 18 months to two years ago, properly mullered, for suggesting that he needed to work on his game defensively, as if he added that attribute, and played more maturely, he'd be an outstanding central midfielder.

Everyone kept quoting the goal and assist stats like they meant everything.

No he hasn't, early on he was a revelation going forward and a liability when out of possession. Massive technical ability but lacking a bit of game management nous.

Last season he matured into a complete central midfield player, getting box to box, making his tackles and covering runs whilst still posing a big threat in open play as well as set pieces.

This year he's started like a man possessed. Seems to have more time on the ball in this league and he's killing them, but still putting in the effort off the ball in the way he couldn't, or at least wasn't, 18 months or so ago.

Does anybody still think that adding defensive responsibility hasn't improved him?

Having added tactical nous, game knowledge and maturity to his very obvious ability, he's become to my eye absolutely bloody outstanding. Unfortunately possibly a little too good - but if we could keep him for the season, we could possibly do something very special. Lose him, and that's at least fifteen goals and probably twenty odd assists gone.

George moncur is a good player but highly unlikely to give us those numbers - Conor, if you're reading this, take advice from hammill. Like he said to Alfie, don't take a move too soon. Stay here and play, run the show, and prove yourself at this level.

Stay or not we're gonna get full value from him for however long he's here. He's always involved.

Must be close to an international call up.

Very difficult to say as quite different players. For skill, trickery, and the ability to pull off the unexpected, Higgy was better. For drive, determination, and sheer consistency - Redders edges it. Higgy could drift out of games, Redders never did. And of course Redders did it at the highest level for us. Both wonderful players, who I'm honoured to have seen in a Barnsley shirt in their absolute prime.

Hignett was an attacking midfielder, Redders box to box one. Daft comparison because you'd want them both in the same side, not in the same position. :)

No chance of having him leaving this summer unless a massive offer comes in.

Cryne would rather lose him on a free next summer and have him play for us all season rather than look for a last minute replacement that won't be as good anyways.

Redders and Higgy in the same team, mmmmmm. Getting quite excited just thinking about that, what a pity their Oakwell careers didn't overlap.

Do not want to lose him. Amazing laiker. If he does go and we do get decent money, need to spend it on Dack from Gillingham if hes still available...but would sooner keep connor.
With him we will stay up easy, without him its back in the balance

    I hope he stays.

But even more, I hope Cryne tries moving heaven and earth to get him to sign an extension.

Unless there is a clause in players contracts to offer an increment if promoted, all of these players who weren't out of contract will be on league 1 wages.

I can understand a reticence to not bust the club and to say Hourihane etc may want to run their contracts down, but offering new deals and good ones, even if just 12 months to give them parity of earnings to Hourihane, Winnall, Roberts, Scowen, Watkins and Davies seems prudent and sensible. Put something there and lets try and keep this squad together longer

The value of Hourihane is immense. Leader, free kick scorer, midfield general, talisman, assister extraordinaire. We should be doing everything we can to keep him. To lose him for nothing would be a travesty.

He's already made it clear that he's going to McPhail his way out of here. Enjoy it while it lasts (probably January)

You can't compare Higgy and Redders both very different players... Redders didn't have pace, play wide or as a striker like Higgy. Likewise Higgy was never engine, general or all rounder in central midfield putting in tackles, launching attacks and scoring like Redders.

Redders vs Connor could be a debate in years to come, but Connor is still young and learning. Redders got better at the back end of his career!

Now just imagine a midfield with Higgy, Hourihane, Redders and Other! Wow
As things stand that could be 3 of midfield in my all time best XI
