Re: Excellent idea Stones left with just HOURS of the transfer window to go after the general manager and director of Barnsley FC admitted we were not in a very strong position because Stones had the power to dictate a move.
Re: Excellent idea He weighed up his options. He was recovering from a serious injury, and took his time to try choose the right club. Time will tell if it was the right club - in a footballing sense. He was going in January, like Stones did, if he'd not been cynically crippled whilst captaining this club. Think about that.
Re: Excellent idea There is actually one difference between the two. Butterfield honoured his contract and then left, Stones didn't want to honour his and arranged a move away in the middle of it.
Re: Excellent idea And JB's wage was the lowest in the first team. Stones was on double that before he left. The mind boggles when thinking about BFC.
Re: Excellent idea Just to add to that, I'm not choosing one player over the other. I was just addressing that specific point. I think they're both great players and I wish they were still with us. If you took the money out of the equation I bet they do too. I think Butterfield will always be the most skilful player and more technically gifted, but Stones is much more athletic and not without skill himself and I think that will take him further.
Re: Excellent idea And younger. As I said earlier, I hope all our youngsters that depart go on to have great careers. It looks better on us.
Re: Excellent idea John Stones will play for England (that's him jinxed...) Had Butterfield not been done by Michael Brown I reck he'd have gone to a better team than Norwich and played in The Prem. Not seen him play since he left us but can he establish himself post injury and in a team that doesn't put him at the centre of everything they do like Hill did with him ?
Re: Excellent idea He would have gone to a bigger club, you're right. As for the last part, I think that's a good question. Time will tell I suppose.
Re: Excellent idea Definitely. Let's hope we learn from Summer 2011 and refusing to sit down and extend JB's contract. Our current proper footballer needs tying down. Over to you, Don/Barry/Paddy/Mark/Sharon/somebody.
While everyone is suddenly wanting the shirt retired and statue building I’ll just leave this here when people lost their sh*t over the gym being named after him and saying butterfield was better
I mean, a move to Everton wasn't exactly the pinnacle. If that's the bar then what we naming after Mason Holgate?
Bit strange? A thread from 2013…. Has there been anyone actually mention a retirement of a shirt or a statue?
