I thought he did ok last night and I saw enough to think he could be a decent player once he is match fit and match sharp. Its way too early to write him off as cr.ap.

Am wi you MK..If consider he's nt made 5 starts this season with injury...he was playing wide left (not he natural roll)....for the team... put one on a plate for butters goal in the first half... cut the lad a bit of slack.

Plus our season may depend on him coming good.... because you aint going to get 40 game out of Andy Gray

Very impressed with Craig Davies last night against Burnley......as for Grey

Obviously not fully match fit after being out so long.......but when Keith Hill brought him into the middle of the attack he was causeing Burnley all sorts of problems. In fact they put two defenders on him.
He managed to run into space and found some good positions. Made two runs on goal that he should have scored. But give him a few games and his sharpeness will come in time.
His lay off for the first goal was brilliant

As for Grey...........this guy works very hard but he just hasn't got it.
It was like having a hat stand as a centre forward. Great balls played through to him and they usually just bounced off him in all directions.

So I would love to see this team:

    .............................Steele
    Wiseman......Edwards...McNulty..........McEverly

    ........Drinkwater.....................Perkins........

    .......................Butterfield

    O'Brien...........................................Haynes
    ..........................Davis

I think this team is capable of getting into the top 10 maybe the top 6
Problem is..........we havn't got many spare options especially attacking options if we get injuries.

Great performance from the super TYKES against Burnley..........especially when we went to 442

Watching a different game to me. Plenty of times he held it up and layed off to Butterfield/O'Brien. And don't forget he set up Vaz Te.

Can't agree with that about Gray. Didn't have his best game last night and was poor on Saturday but he is integral to the way we play at the moment. It's the balls in to his feet and chest which is the catalyst for movement off of him. By dropping deep to get the ball he created the gaps which Davies exploited second half, and allowed Butterfield and Drinkwater to progress beyond him. He did this too fleetingly last night, but we don't have another striker who can play that role, certainly not Davies. That's not a criticism of Davies, but Gray is an important part of how we play under Hill. he will always look poor if we try and use him as big target man but if you get the ball in to him he will retain possession and open up the game for others to score.

You must be watching a different game to me. Gray held the ball up countless times, never gave posession away, must have laid of dozens of passes and setup the second goal, without him we would be getting the play straight back at us all the time, we don't have another player who ca play that role, not Davies that's for sure, maybe he's not match fit but I've seen milk turn quicker and he missed 2 sitters, a very different player certainly, as good a Gray? Not from the evidence we've seen so far, not by a long chalk.

Can't understand the sh i te Gray's getting, in the past 4/5 games its the best l've seen him play in a reds shirt, what more do you want him to do when's generally the lone striker? Same with my mates after watching the Pompey game "he's sh*t Gray we need a striker..." yeah it was the first time they had seen them this season. We could bring in another striker and they'd do exactly the same job but cost money, cut the bloke some slack he's putting a reyt shift in at minute.

Heard exactly same up at Main on Sunday morning - barmy.

The only difference between the way he's playing now and before is that he's got players to pass to now - wingers like O'Brien putting crosses in and midfielders like Drinkwater and Butterfield getting close to him. Always been class.

I completely agree. The way he is playing he is crucial to us at the minute. Thankfully I think the majority can see just how much he does for the team.

The chance to see the difference is when Gray is dropped and we get a reight striker

There's nothing to compare him with at the moment

Got to agree he works hard..........but that dosent make him good enough

............we have players like Butters, Drinkwater and OBrien sending great balls into the middle that any proper striker would snap up
And all we have is something that resembles a hat stand..........is control and first touch is abysmal........the ball just bounces off him.........he hasen't got any speed.........and neither is he big enough or strong enough to cause defences problems on that line of attack

People who think Gray is good need to ask themselves...........why is it that we are playing most of our opponents off the park and yet not scoring and actually beating them?............i.e. Portsmoth, Leicester etc etc

Scored 3 in 9. And set up a couple.

I'll take 1 in 3 from a target man playing up top on his own.

That 1 in 3 will keep em quiet for a while.

That hat stand ensured £5 million Matt Mills didn't get a kick other week...

I reckon he has shown glimpses of being able to play at this level. He hasn't had a decent run of games yet so far too early to be 'getting shut'. He might be another like JOB who needs a while to settle in properly.

As for the criticism of Gray, it is nonsense. He has always been a Championship quality striker, and is playing as well as ever this season. He does the graft for the team, and unfortunately that type of work seems to go unnoticed by some.
